Lars Kai Hansen receives NNF Data Science Distinguished Investigator Grant

Can artificial intelligence algorithms learn to communicate in a language we understand?

Machine learning algorithms are often perceived as complex black boxes and much research has already gone into opening the black box to explain what has been learned from data. The communication aspects of explainable AI have attracted less attention. The cognitive spaces project is aimed at making AI explanations more trustworthy, align them better to given user groups and effectively let the algorithms speak the user’s language.

The project is granted DKK 9,891,028 from the Novo Nordisk Foundation to investigate Cognitive Spaces – Next Generation Explainability subject.

Data Science Distinguished Investigator Grant

The purpose of the ‘Data Science Distinguished Investigator’ grant is to support outstanding professors with novel research ideas within the field of data science that have a potential for high impact. The programme is part of the NNF Data Science Initiative, through which the Foundation aims to strengthen the Danish academic research environment within data science and artificial intelligence, as well as support the education and training of the next generation of data scientists.
