Dietary habits

Why do Danes find it difficult to eat meat-free?

Danes are the worst in Europe at reducing meat consumption. Why do they find it so difficult when science tells us it benefits both our health and the climate?

  • Since 1985, DTU Food has conducted national dietary surveys among children and adults.
  • Since 2000, the department has also collected detailed data on Danes’ physical activity and weight.
  • Data on a total of 18,000 Danish children and adults are included in the survey, which is officially called ‘The Danish National Survey of Dietary Habits and Physical Activity’.
  • DTU Food uses the results for consulting and research within nutrition, for example regarding enrichment of foods, calculations of dietary climate footprint, as well as dietary recommendations and targeting nutrient information at the general population.
