The Danish Council for Independent Research has awarded 27 Sapere Aude grants, five of which went to researchers from DTU.
Five DTU researchers are among this year’s recipients of a total of 27 prestigious Sapere Aude grants from the Danish Council for Independent Research. This year, the Council awards a total of DKK 219 million as part of the Sapere Aude programme, the purpose of which is to expand the scientific horizon within all main academic areas.
The Sapere Aude funds are granted within three categories: DFF-Research Talent (Step 1), DFF-Starting Grant (Step 2) and DFF-Advanced Grants (Step 3). The two DTU researchers at step 3 are:
Leif Katsuo Oxenløwe, Professor with Special Assignments, PhD, born in 1972, has received approx. DKK 12 million within the subject area of optical communications for his research project on controlling spectral-efficient data super-channels with advanced optical time-lenses for increased energy efficiency.
"Sapere Aude is Latin and means ‘dare to know’"
Ole Sigmund, Professor, Dr.Techn., born in 1966, has received approx. DKK 12 million within the subject area of mechanics, multiphysics and optimization for his research project on optimization of thermal energy systems.
The three DTU researchers at step 2 are:
Niels Gregersen, Associate Professor, PhD, born in 1976, has received approx. DKK 7 million within the subject area of nanophotonics for his research project on a light source for a quantum computer.
Morten Sommer, Professor, PhD, born in 1981, has received approx. 7 million within the subject area of microbiology for his research project on a limited evolution of antimicrobial resistance through rational courses of treatment.
Philip Bille, Associate Professor, PhD, born in 1977, has received approx. DKK 7 million within the subject area of computer science and algorithmics for his research project on searching and indexing compressed data.
