Effective from 1 February 2017, DTU has appointed Professor Rasmus Larsen as its new Executive Vice President and Provost. He comes from a position as Head of Department at DTU Compute.
“It’s been almost exactly two years since I had the pleasure of presenting Professor Rasmus Larsen as the new Head of Department at DTU Compute. And today I am equally delighted to present him as DTU’s new Executive Vice President and Provost,” says DTU President Anders Bjarklev in connection with the appointment.
Rasmus Larsen holds an MSc in Engineering and completed his PhD at DTU in 1994. After working for Novo Nordisk, he has been an associate professor, professor, and most recently Head of Department at DTU Compute—Department of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science. An internationally recognized researcher
"Rasmus Larsen is a skilled manager with insight into DTU’s four main areas: research, education, scientific advice, and innovation."
President Anders O. Bjarklev
“Rasmus Larsen represents everything that is important in an executive vice president and provost at DTU. He is an internationally recognized researcher, he is an experienced and talented lecturer, and he is a skilled manager with insight into DTU’s four main areas: research, education, scientific advice, and innovation. I am very much looking forward to working with him,” says Anders Bjarklev.
On his appointment as Executive Vice President and Provost, Rasmus Larsen says:
“It’s always been important for me to work in an organization with the required openness and willingness to operate across academic competences at all levels. I will continue to focus on this in my new position of Executive Vice President and Provost. A key factor in ensuring the success of DTU’s activities is, in my opinion, the ability to work across disciplines at the University and with its alliance partners.”
Continued development of DTU's research and portfolio of study programmes
“The ability of Danish industry to retain knowledge-based jobs is a crucial prerequisite for maintaining the Danish welfare model. Therefore, DTU must continue to develop its research and its portfolio of study programmes so as to meet the needs of the Danish business community for knowledge building and well-educated engineers. In parallel with this, it is necessary to aggressively support the creation of new businesses based on technological insight,” says Rasmus Larsen.
“As DTU’s new Executive Vice President and Provost, I will actively defend the interests of the University and participate in the public debate on the societal challenges where DTU’s research, study programmes, scientific advice, and innovation can make a difference.”
Rasmus Larsen is an internationally recognized researcher in statistical image analysis. As a researcher and research manager, he has brought his area of expertise into play in major initiatives within geoscience, healthcare technology, food technology, production technology, and materials research.
He has also produced results through cooperation across academic disciplines and in collaboration with businesses and institutions small and large. As a lecturer and head of doctoral studies, he has helped to educate a large number of graduates.
