In line with tradition, the latest DTU graduates were given a send-off into working life with applause, an award ceremony, and well-meaning advice from the President and a prominent guest speaker at this year's first graduate receptions.
178 new BEng graduates and 183 MSc Engineering graduates were officially celebrated by DTU on 20 and 21 April at Lyngby Campus. The large hall was filled with happy graduates and proud friends and family members. According to DTU's President, Anders Bjarklev, there was also very good reason to be happy, relieved, and proud.
"You have completed a demanding study programme. And you are needed out there," he said to the audience.
"You have the necessary skills with you from DTU to make a serious contribution to many of the challenges the world faces today, in areas like the climate, energy resources, and demography."
Wisdom from alumni
In keeping with tradition, two prominent alumni also addressed the graduates, talking about their career paths from the time they left DTU. Fredrik Tuxen, CTO of Trackman, spoke to the BEng graduates and Jasper Hedegaard Bojsen, Director of Platform Innovation, Microsoft Denmark, spoke to the MSc engineering graduates.
"I want my children to be creators of technology—not just consumers of technology. There is no better place than DTU for that to happen," said Jasper Hedegaard Bojsen, before wishing the new graduates success in their forthcoming careers.
Sebastian Molbech Hansen, Chairman of Polyteknisk Forening (PF student association), also congratulated the graduates from the podium, thanking them for the contributions they had all made to the University in their own unique ways. "You have all made DTU a better place for future students," he said.
Martin Vigild, Senior Vice President and Dean of Undergraduate Studies and Student Affairs, and Martin Bendsøe, Dean of Graduate Studies, then awarded diplomas on the stage. This was followed by champagne, photographs, and hugs among the hopeful graduates of the programme.
