Welcome to the hammock woods

Over the course of May, new outdoor environments will be shooting up between the buildings on Lyngby Campus

A packed lunch garden, an area of hammock woods, and a lounge area built of pallets from DTU’s numerous construction projects. Not something you would immediately associate with life on campus at DTU. However, they are just some of the pop-up environments that will be appearing on campus in Lyngby during the month of May.

The initiative stems from DTU CAS Client, which, in addition to working busily on new builds and renovation, is also devoting time and effort to developing ‘life between the buildings’ on squares and other open areas.

“Students are looking for more places to kick back and relax between and after their lectures, and we’re keen to try a variety of models for developing squares and the like on campus. That’s why we’re testing a number of ideas to see how well they work, and what students think of them,” relates Karin Schou, Project Manager, at DTU CAS Client.

The temporary pop-up environments will be ready in May and will remain at least until the autumn.
