President Kang Sung-mo from KAIST and Dean Martin P. Bendsøe from DTU shake hands on the new agreement.

New partnership agreements with KAIST

DTU has joined Danish Prime Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen on his first official visit to South Korea in 25 years. In this connection, two new partnership agreements have been signed between DTU and the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST)

The partnership between DTU and KAIST was initiated in 2008 with special focus on sustainable solutions and green technology.

During the state visit, the Danish Prime Minister places special emphasis on energy and health collaboration, and DTU and KAIST therefore both contributed with presentations on their research partnership in the field of green technology at a joint seminar organised by the Korean-Danish Green Growth Alliance.

“The Korean government focuses intensely on innovation, entrepreneurship, and internationalization—areas in which we have a lot to learn from each other,” says Lars Løkke Rasmussen.

Research and student entrepreneurship
DTU and KAIST are now expanding their research and student entrepreneurship collaboration, which covers a wide range of joint activities regarding, for example, exchange programmes, joint MSc programmes, research, and innovation.

"There’s a strong interest in the Danish social model in South Korea, and we can export Danish solutions, while also benefitting from knowledge in areas where Korea is leading the way."
Lars Løkke Rasmussen, Prime Minister of Denmark

The ceremony at which DTU and KAIST signed the agreement was attended by the Korean Prime Minister, Hwang Kyo-ahn, and the Danish Prime Minister, Lars Løkke Rasmussen.

Joint research project
The agreement confirms the intention to launch a joint strategic research project between DTU and KAIST—with particular focus on a specific research area in which both universities have complementary competences and can contribute to solving the global challenges together. The project is intended to involve several departments at both DTU and KAIST and to promote further development of the existing research collaboration between the academic environments at the two universities.

Joint student entrepreneurship
The agreement sets out the framework for collaboration on training and support of students in relation to the development of start-ups, and it gives students at DTU and KAIST the possibility of going on exchange, placing particular emphasis on entrepreneurship and innovation, and provides them with access to the entrepreneurial ecosystems at the two universities. The collaboration is also expected to contribute to the development of the international entrepreneurship and innovation environment at both universities.
