There seems to be no end to the success for the tech-company Airtame. Not only was Airtame voted the best startup at the biggest tech conference for consumer electronics in Las Vegas in January, but the company has also now become the Danish project that has collected the most money ever—a staggering USD 1,268,148— via crowdfunding.
The company, which numbers two DTU students among its founders, originally set out to raise USD 160,000 via crowdfunding (i.e. raising capital by collecting small sums from individuals).
The original aim was to raise a relatively modest USD 160,000, but when the collection ended on 18 January, it transpired that almost eight times as much had flowed into Airtime’s coffers via Indiegogo, the crowdfunding portal. The Airtame entrepreneurs made use of both DTU Skylab and the App Garage during the project.
Airtame’s product is an HDMI-dongle, a little electronic component with a USB plug that can be used to send images and audio wirelessly from a computer to external displays such as TV screens. At CES, Airtame was competing against more than 200 other startups.
