The Danish Academy of Technical Sciences (ATV) has just admitted 40 new members. One in four of them comes from DTU.
A quarter of the new members that the Danish Academy of Technical Sciences (ATV) has recently admitted come from DTU. The 40 leading figures from the business community and the world of research were admitted to the Academy at its annual meeting on 6 May 2014.
Academy members are selected on the strength of their skills in the fields of technical science, natural science or health science. They have displayed strong involvement in society and have generated notable results in their chosen field—irrespective of whether they may be employed at a company, a university or another knowledge institution.
More skilled members
Hanne Østergaard Jarmer, associate professor at DTU Systems Biology, is one of the new members. As she sees it, the high proportion of new members from DTU means ATV will be welcoming more skilled members in the areas of education, research, scientific advice and innovation, which will inevitably boost ATV’s impact:
“At DTU, ‘Technical’ and ‘Innovation’ are pretty much part of our DNA, and this is not just reflected in our research. We also embrace the introduction of technology into teaching, wherever it provides effective and pedagogical support for learning. Moreover, we place particular emphasis on ensuring that our students assimilate the concepts of innovation and entrepreneurship.”
Independent members’ organization
ATV is a private, independent organization which aims at furthering technical and scientific research and education, as well as reinforcing partnership between businesses and universities. ATV is a non-profit organization and bases projects on its members’ voluntary work.
Academy members are expected to make a contribution to the work of the academy for the benefit of society to the extent that their work and other obligations allow. New members are involved in ATV’s project and activities and given the opportunity to propose new initiatives.
