DTU’s President accompanies Danish Prime Minister to South Korea

DTU President Anders Bjarklev is part of the business delegation accompanying Danish Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt on her official visit to South Korea from 5 to 7 March. The Prime Minister’s trip—which begins with a visit to Japan—is the biggest-ever Danish business promotion in Asia.

The purpose of the Prime Minister’s visit is to strengthen political and business ties with Japan and South Korea and to promote specific Danish business interests in the two countries. In South Korea, the Prime Minister will be joined by over 70 Danish businesses and sector organizations.

“Over the past five years, we have seen how Denmark’s and South Korea’s scientific environments and businesses have sought common solutions to the major challenges of green growth and a more sustainable future,” says Anders Bjarklev.

Since the launch of the Danish-Korean collaboration—the Danish-Korean Green Growth Alliance—three years ago, DTU and its Korean colleagues have worked hard to promote a green agenda for more sustainable energy. According to Anders Bjarklev, DTU enjoys excellent collaboration with leading South Korean universities and research institutions regarding the development of green environmental and energy technologies.

“I’m convinced that the trip will prove beneficial to Denmark and DTU, as it will give us the opportunity to extend our existing contacts and networks with universities and businesses in South Korea,” says Anders Bjarklev.

The Danish Prime Minister’s visit to South Korea will focus on refining the existing strategic partnership and the Danish-Korean Green Growth Alliance. During her visit, Helle Thorning-Schmidt will hold political talks with South Korea’s President, Park Geun-hye and Prime Minister Chung Hongwon.
