My primary areas of expertise are science-based advisory services and research, with a particular focus on process-related chemical contaminants in food, as well as pesticide residues in cereals and feedingstuffs. A significant part of my work is carried out in my roles as Head of the European Union Reference Laboratory for Processing Contaminants (EURL-PC) and Head of the European Union Reference Laboratory for Pesticides in Cereals and Feedingstuffs (EURL-CF). In these capacities, I contribute to the development, validation, and harmonization of analytical methods and support scientific risk assessment at the European level. My research on process-related contaminants includes compounds such as furan, 2-methylfuran, 3-methylfuran, and 3-monochloropropane-1,2-diol (3-MCPD), as well as its fatty acid esters (3-MCPD esters). In addition, I am actively engaged in research on flavour-related volatile compounds and have investigated the dynamics of bromoform dehalogenation from the red seaweed Asparagopsis taxiformis in rumen feeding studies.
