I am Associate Professor Emeritus at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU), Department of Engineering Technology and Didactics. I hold an MSc in Engineering and a PhD from DTU, and throughout my academic career I have worked within ergonomics, participatory design, and socio-technical systems design. My research focuses on the design of work systems and on integrating human, organisational, and technological perspectives in engineering, innovation, and organisational change. My main areas of expertise include participatory ergonomics, workplace and work systems design, Industry 4.0, employee participation in innovation, knowledge transfer between operations and engineering design, and the creation of healthy and sustainable work environments. A central theme throughout my work has been the development and application of participatory approaches that enable employees, managers, designers, and engineers to collaborate in the design of products, workplaces, and work systems. I am particularly interested in how socio-technical design can improve both human well-being and organisational performance. My research has been conducted in a variety of settings, including manufacturing, healthcare, product development, and occupational health and safety. In addition to my research activities, I have been actively engaged in teaching, supervision, and academic leadership at DTU. I have contributed to the development of engineering education and research environments, including leadership roles in study programmes and research groups. I have also served the international ergonomics community through editorial work and professional associations. My current interests include participatory systems design, design thinking in occupational health and safety, socio-technical systems analysis and design, and the development of new ways of working in response to digitalisation and emerging technologies.
