Meet exchange students from DTU

Jognhyun Lim

My name is Jognhyun Lim. I come from the Republic of Korea and my home university is KAIST (Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology).

In Korea I’m 22 years old, and in Europe I’m 21. In Asia, you are 1 years old when you are born—not zero. So, minus one from Korean age is European age.

Why did you choose DTU?

I wanted to go Europe because I’ve never been to Europe before. I was really curious about European culture and lifestyle. And my friend, who has studied at DTU last semester, told me DTU is the best university and they take care of exchange students.

Also the Danes can speak English very well, so I thought I would have no problem living here. For these reasons, I choose DTU and I glad to say that everything is living up to my expectations.

DTU and ESN (the Erasmus Student Network) have many programmes for exchange students, and the Danes do speak English very well—so, I’m totally satisfied!

What is the best thing about studying at DTU?

Exercise time and group work. At my home university we have lots of homework and problems, but there is no time in class to solve them. We have to use our spare time and solve the problems ourselves. And if that is hard, we have to form our own study groups.

But at DTU the lectures include exercise time and almost everything is group work. It is more helpful to me solving the problem that way, and I also learn how to communicate with others.

Why did you choose DTU?

DTU has a good exchange student system. So I can be close with lots of students from various countries and exchange many things (like study, culture, language etc.) with them.I think this is why there are a lot of exchange students at DTU.

Also, ESN (the Erasmus Student Network) is great! I can meet people who are studying at other universities in Denmark!

What is the best thing about studying at DTU?

The students at DTU are very passionate and active. During lectures, they ask lots of questions. Also, in the exercise sessions, they study and discuss the problems in a group.

I think we can learn a lot by discussing—especially for my major, mathematics. So it is a very helpful and effective way to learn.

Why did you choose DTU?

In my search for study abroad in Scandinavia, DTU stood out as a quality university that offered interesting and relevant courses in civil engineering. After more research I found that the active Danish culture and close proximity to Copenhagen only made my decision easier.

What is the best thing about studying at DTU?

I've really enjoyed meeting people and getting to know their cultures. DTU has created a great atmosphere to study and socialize with students from nearly every continent.

Why did you choose DTU?

I was curious to experience living in a Nordic country. Besides, I’m very interested in renewable energy and DTU is prominent in wind energy, and so is Denmark. Also, the Master programmes offered here were very appealing so I am now extending my Erasmus experience to a full degree at DTU.

What is the best thing about studying at DTU?

The “learning by doing” teaching methodology is brilliant, and there is such a dynamic atmosphere on campus—full of activity and parties for international students arranged by the student organization.
