Titel: Investigation of Taylor’s “frozen turbulence” hypothesis in the Atmospheric Boundary Layer, via Large Eddy Simulation

Taylor’s frozen turbulence hypothesis supposes that turbulent structures do not change over time and advect at the mean wind speed. This hypothesis is used frequently to overcome the difficulty of measuring fluid motions both temporally and spatially. It has also been the subject of numerous studies in order to identify and correct its failings. Using LES data of the atmospheric boundary layer at varying spatial scales and resolution, a spatio-temporal spectrum and its corresponding autocorrelation is constructed in order to investigate Taylor’s hypothesis and some of the corrections that rely on comparatively limited information and discuss its use in large scale experiments and in wind farm siting.
