I've always aimed to minimise sustainability impacts before they happened... when I realized that design defines 80% of the impacts across the life cycle, I decided to dedicate my research to advancing Sustainable Design theory and practice. I have been actively researching on Sustainable Design since 2006, with an evolving focus from ecodesign and eco-innovation, to Circular Economy and product-service systems (PSS) through a strong link with industry. But over time, I realised that the way we design is leading to rebound effects, which are significantly undermining the potential sustainability gains. In the context of the recently funded ERC REBOUNDLESS project, I'm currently focused on the development of an leading-edge approach for explaining, simulating and preventing the occurrence of rebound effects, by design.
