Guidance to students in their final year on specialised topics in Environmental Engineering. Supervised approximately 100 M.Sc. thesis projects. Publications: Authoring or co-authoring 133 ISI publications, 2388 ISI citations and the h-index is 29. He has 35 refereed conference papers, 25 non-refereed conference papers, ca. 100 Danish journal papers and conference papers, and 27 Danish scientific reports. Ca.20 book chapters. Co-author of two patents, 1. Glucose Isomerase (NOVO), 2. BioDenipho Process (Krüger A/S). Awards: 1. The Pump Handle Award 2014 - John Snow Society. 2. Knight’s Cross of the Order of the Dannebrog, 2009. 3. ATV Soil- and Groundwater Prize 2005 - In memory of Professor Poul Harremoës. 4. DADES Environmental Prize 2000. Limprisen 1987.

He has been member of the Danish Technical Scientific Research Council (STVF) 1981-1985. Member of and chairman of the Biotechnology and Hygienic Commission (H) 1979-1985. Chairman of the ATV Groundwater Committee 1983-1987. Technical advisor for the Ministry of Environment on soil and groundwater pollution. Member of the Teaching Committee and the Water Supply Committee in the Danish Water and Wastewater Association (DANVA). Member of the executive committee of the Danish IWA National committee. Has been member of the executive committee of the Biofilm Specialist Group in IWA. He has been member of the steering committee of the Danish Research Platform - Water.
