Working within fisheries

Fishing provides livelihood and food for millions of people. At the same time, large parts of the world's fish stocks are overexploited. Healthy fish stocks are a prerequisite for commercial fisheries as well as for ensuring marine biodiversity, both now and in the future. 

Candidates who have specialized in fisheries will have a thorough understanding of the impacts of fishing on fish stocks and aquatic ecosystems, and will be able to participate in designing and operating management systems to achieve sustainable fisheries.

Candidates can be employed by consulting companies, fishing industry associations, fish processing companies, environmental organisations and NGO’s, companies specialized in eco-labelling of fish products, relevant ministries and directorates, international organisations, and by universities and institutions within aquatic science and fisheries research and management.
