Taught exclusively in English, DTU’s Master of Science in Engineering programmes cover most modern engineering fields and are research-based technological programmes at elite level. With a master's degree from DTU your are qualified for a knowledge-intensive position in industry and the business sector and in society in general. As a graduate from DTU you obtain the title Master of Science in Engineering in your chosen engineering field.

Programme structure

The MSc Eng is a two-year programme with a workload of 120 ECTS credit points.

The structure and content of the various programmes reflects DTU’s status as one of the highest ranking European technical universities. Through recommended study lines/focus areas DTU’s master's programmes offer a broad range of curricula from the highly specialized to a broader and more versatile educational profile.

The programmes comprise four categories of courses: General competences, Technological specialization, Electives, and Thesis.

General Competence courses are designed to offer you the range of skills necessary to meet the complex challenges of an engineering career, including project management, teamwork, communication, problem-solving and resource planning.

All these skills are taught within your field of research and fall into the following categories:

  • General engineering competences
  • You learn to combine technology application and development with financial management, management and organization. Most importantly, you learn how to use your qualifications and technological know-how in a professional and social context.
  • Synthesis competences
  • You learn how to define and provide solutions to an open problem. You may be part of a cross-disciplinary team, and will be trained in communication and collaboration.
  • Normative competences
  • You learn a set of essential disciplines common to all technical aspects of engineering within a specific field.

30 ECTS

This group of courses gives you the in-depth academic and technological knowledge necessary for obtaining state-of-the-art competences within a specific field of engineering.

By combining the technological specialization course with appropriate elective courses, you can create your own inspiring and highly individual study programme.

30 ECTS

An important aspect of the DTU MSc Eng programmes is the significant number of elective courses. Here you can pursue your own scientific and professional interests.

In principle, you can choose between more than 400 different DTU courses.

The master's thesis marks the completion of the two-year MSc Eng programme.

The research project is most often carried out at DTU and in many cases in collaboration with one of our many industrial partners.

All projects include elements of fundamental research, innovation and application.

Study lines or focus areas have been developed for most of the MSc Eng programmes. Completing a certain study line will result in a more specialized educational profile.

The programmes have a cross-disciplinary content and provide the graduate with a unique set of engineering qualifications, only obtainable from the DTU research and innovation environment.

You can see the individual study lines under each MSc Eng programme
