Computational Modelling and Simulation - Specialization
Computational Modelling and Simulation
Computational modelling and simulation is indispensable across science and engineering, providing essential tools to solve complex problems such as fluid dynamics, structural mechanics, and climate prediction. This study line offers a strong grounding in the mathematical prerequisites necessary to tackle both theoretical and practical challenges. Students will gain expertise in developing and applying computational methods to model physical phenomena, interpret results, and drive innovation across diverse scientific and engineering disciplines.
Specialization specific courses
The student must follow the requirements in the general curriculum for the programme. In addition, at least 20 ECTS points are obtained among the following courses:
| 01622 | Advanced Dynamical Systems: Applications in Science and Engineering | 5 | point | Spring F3B (Fri 13-17) |
| 02421 | Stochastic Adaptive Control | 5 | point | Spring F3A (Tues 8-12) |
| 02425 | Diffusions and stochastic differential equations | 5 | point | Autumn E1B (Thurs 13-17) |
| 02616 | Large-scale Modelling | 5 | point | Autumn E3A (Tues 8-12) |
| 02619 | Model Predictive Control | 5 | point | Autumn E2B (Thurs 8-12) |

| 02689 | Advanced Numerical Methods for Differential Equations | 5 | point | Autumn E2B (Thurs 8-12) |
Recommended elective courses
The following courses are recommended for the specialization:
| 02443 | Stochastic Simulation | 5 | point | June |
| 02623 | The Finite Element Method for Partial Differential Equations | 5 | point | January |
| 02686 | Scientific computing for differential equations | 5 | point | Spring F1B (Thurs 13-17) |
Examples of study plans
Four examples are shown: two focusing on dynamic system and two focusing on numerical PDE. Both include study plans for students beginning in September or in February.
The study plans are examples only. Students are free to exchange the shown courses with other courses if the general requirements for the curriculum in mathmatical modelling and computation and the specialisation are satisfied. The proposed plans fulfil requirements of the MMC curriculum.

Specializations are merely recommended ways of choosing the courses in the curriculum. Applicants are not admitted to a specialization but to the programme and it is possible to choose among all the courses in the curriculum following the directions given. However, if a specialization has been fulfilled the title of the specialization may be added to the diploma.
