Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

As an internationally oriented elite university, we must continually strengthen our research and innovation capabilities, and we aim to attract and retain talented students and staff. That is why we at DTU are actively working to create equal opportunities for all. Among other things, we do this by taking a broad approach to diversity, equity and inclusion.

DEI policy & Gender Equality Plan

Diversity, equality, and inclusion are integral to DTU, and we constantly strive to improve. That is why we are constantly working to integrate diversity, equality and inclusion into DTU’s culture, processes, systems and structures, so that they shape the way we carry out our tasks, lead and collaborate.

DTU has an action plan for diversity, equality, and inclusion (GEP) that complies with the requirements of the EU Horizon programme.

Different perspectives, backgrounds, and approaches strengthen our research, enrich our study programmes, and bolster our solutions. Diversity turns our values into everyday reality.

DTU DEI Community

A network comprising around 130 DTU staff members from all parts of the university.

The DTU DEI Community’s main task is to help promote a culture at DTU where gender, age, religion, academic discipline and nationality are actively valued as strengths.

Once a year, DTU DEI DAY is held, focusing on specific themes such as neurodiversity, gender diversity, etc.

We need people who can approach challenges from different angles to create the innovations and technological solutions that make a difference in society.

International outlook

DTU is an international university. We value individuals whose experiences have been shaped by different cultures, perspectives and ways of thinking, and who bring new insights and approaches to our community.

Today, our student body represents 107 countries, and a significant proportion of our PhD students and staff come from outside Denmark. We take great pride in this international environment. Our global outlook is one of the reasons why DTU has been ranked No. 1 on EngiRank for the third consecutive year.

Social impact and ethics in research

Impact also means integrating societal, democratic and ethical considerations into research. Our ambition is to develop technologies that address the world’s most pressing challenges while ensuring that they are created with the interests of people and society at heart.

By embedding these considerations in research and innovation, we strengthen both the quality of our work and the relevance and applicability of the technologies we develop.

A selection of our initiatives

Inclusion and diversity are part of action plans

DTU expects respectful and acceptable behaviour among students and staff. Consequently, specific targets have been incorporated into the action plans of all departments and centres, setting out initiatives that promote an inclusive and motivating culture free from unacceptable behaviour.

DTU has committed to the CoARA principles

DTU has joined the Coalition for Advancing Research Assessment (CoARA), an EU initiative designed to support the development of a more inclusive and responsible research culture.
