A university with a focus on sustainability

DTU is committed to creating sustainable solutions that support a better life for people, contribute to value creation, and promote sustainable resource consumption. On this page, you can get an overview of our efforts on sustainability.

At DTU, we take responsibility for developing solutions and technology that benefit all people, the green transition and a more sustainable world.

At the same time, we are very aware that in the university's daily operations, we behave responsibly in terms of how we impact the environment, consume resources, create socially sustainable environments and run our organization properly.

The world is changing - and so is our perception of sustainability. Sustainability is an integral part of our research and development of new technologies as well as how DTU educates engineers

Research

Sustainability plays a role in all the research areas that DTU covers. However, researchers across DTU's institutes have defined specific areas where DTU has a particular strength in research for the green transition.

Energy Transport Biosolutions Construction Climate

At DTU, we are committed to making sustainability knowledge a cornerstone of all programmes. All students from bachelor to PhD level must consider how sustainable technology development plays a role in their education and research.

Perspectives on sustainability are included as part of the learning objectives of most courses and in the polytechnic foundation, which is the academic basis for DTU's civil engineering programme.

Education

Green Challenge

In GREEN CHALLENGE, students learn to integrate aspects of social, economic and environmental sustainability into their work.

We keep our own house in order

At DTU, we want to create a physical environment that allows everyone using DTU's campuses to minimise their resource footprint.

We will act as sustainably as possible in the daily operation of the university and when we build or renovate. We want an open, respectful, and inclusive culture with room for everyone able and willing to participate.
