Fees, funding and permits

Please note that all non-EU/EEA applicants are required to pay an application fee of € 100 before your application is processed.

The deadline for paying the fee is 15 March. On receipt of the application fee, a confirmation e-mail will be sent to the applicant.

Please note that your application will not be processed until we have received your application fee payment.

No refunds are given if your application is rejected or if you are admitted but choose to withdraw your application. It is not possible to defer your studies.

If your application is successful, the application fee will be deducted from the first tuition fee payment that you make to DTU (i.e. your first tuition fee payment will be € 7,400 instead of € 7,500).

Exemptions for non-EU/EEA Citizens

If you have a “permanent residence permit” or a “time limited residence permit issued with a possibility of permanent residence in Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden” (must have this exact wording), you are exempt from paying the application fee. In order to qualify for this exemption, you must include a copy of your residence permit with the application.

Refunds

First-semester students who are not yet enrolled at DTU:
Students who have paid the tuition fee, but who, for various reasons, are not enrolled at DTU after all (e.g. did not qualify for a residence permit), can receive a full refund of their tuition fee after 1 October/1 March.

First-semester students who have commenced the first semester:
Students who drop out of their studies before 1 November/1 April of their first semester at DTU have the right to have 50 per cent of the tuition fee refunded, excluding bank charges, regardless of the reason for withdrawing from their studies. Only students who submit a written withdrawal request to optagelse@adm.dtu.dk no later than 1 November/1 April of their first semester at DTU—may receive a refund of 50 per cent of their tuition fee, excluding bank charges.

Other instances:
In case of serious illness or death (one self, a partner or a member of the immediate family) it is possible to apply for a refund of the tuition fee for the semester already commenced. The application for a refund of the tuition fee (including documentation for the special circumstances) must be submitted in writing to optagelse@adm.dtu.dk no later than three weeks after the student has submitted a request to the Study Administration to withdraw from their studies. The Dean of the programme in question will make the decision in the matter.

Students who have paid for a full academic year, and who withdraw from their studies no later than 14 days prior to the start of the second semester of the academic year, have the right to have the tuition fee for the second semester refunded, excluding bank charges.

The tuition fee will not normally be refunded to students after 1 November/1 April of their first semester at DTU. However, written applications for refunds will be considered in special cases (i.e. in cases where the applicant can prove that DTU has not lived up to its obligations). The application must be submitted in writing to optagelse@adm.dtu.dk. The Dean of the programme in question shall make the decision in the matter.

Applications for tuition fee refunds that are submitted more than one year after payment will not be considered.

DTU offers no scholarships or tuition fee waivers at undergraduate level.
