IT and Economics is a study programme DTU offers in collaboration with Copenhagen Business School (CBS). The programme gives you a holistic understanding of both the production and commercial aspects of a business. The IT and Economics programme equips you to create IT solutions that make life better and easier for people—both inside and outside companies.

What will you learn?

The IT and Economics programme is an interdisciplinary study programme that gives you broad IT knowledge, while teaching you about business economics, organizations and management. At DTU you will learn about development methods for IT systems, user friendliness, design, and object-oriented programming for PCs and smartphones.

You will also have the opportunity to work on the design of user interfaces and functionality in multimedia applications—including the latest Web technologies. You will also learn about software technology, and get an insight into various forms of communication and how to link them to form large communications networks.

The technical courses will be supplemented with various subjects from the BSc programme in Economics at CBS, so you will also cover the commercial side of things. You will learn about business economics, financial management, and business law, and gain thorough insight into the conditions under which businesses and industry operate. You will thereby gain an understanding of how development, production, sales, and marketing are closely related in a technological company.

Study programme structure

Your first two semesters will involve teaching at both DTU and at CBS. The remaining tuition is primarily at DTU—unless you choose to take electives at CBS. You get the opportunity to apply your interdisciplinary competences during an engineering internship in a company in semester 6, through project work, and in your final BEng project. In semesters 5 and 7 you can specialize in the area that interests you most through electives.

Career opportunities

The study programme qualifies you for employment in a wide range of companies that work with IT. Knowledge of IT combined with business understanding is a competence that is in high demand in the business world today. Example job areas include design and development of IT systems, design of user interfaces and functionality for interactive multimedia applications, IT project management, and Web application design and development.
